I think, not only in this case, but in all other similar cases, the principle of remitting rentals is fraught not only with injustice to private parties, but is subject to public inconvenience.
I am fully persuaded that the institution of a Foundling Hospital will be attended with good results, and thus a site might be selected somewhere (for buildings as may be necessary) which, being of less value to the public, and suitable to the wants of a Foundling Hospital, these circumstances coupled with the fact that the Colony would not sustain, I feel at least, any loss by free grant somewhere, I cannot advise the remission of the rent applied for, especially as more at the present moment the land if offered for sale would, no doubt, be readily taken by the parties who were unsuccessful in obtaining it at public auction.
